HistoryThe Nova Scotia Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (NSSDMS) was formed and incorporated in 1987. The mandate of the society is to promote the profession of diagnostic medical ultrasound and to disseminate information related to the profession. ExecutiveThe NSSDMS Executive consists of: President All positions are 2 year terms. CommitteesThere is currently only one committee in operation: the legislation committee. This committee is currently working with the Nova Scotia Association of Medical Radiation Technologists to pursue adding diagnostic sonography as a new discipline in their proposed college. Educational Seminar and Annual General MeetingThe NSSDMS holds an annual Educational Seminar and General Meeting. These are held on a rotational basis in five regions of the province. The seminars are generally held on a weekend and grant up to ten continuing medical education credits. AwardsThe NSSDMS works closely with the School of Health Sciences at Dalhousie University. The Cynthia Johnson Evans award is given by the society to a third year student who exhibits exemplary clinical skills. The NSSDMS also grants the Jeanne MacDonald Memorial award to a working sonographer who embraces values such as patient advocacy and compassion.
