Happy Ultrasound Professionals Week!
I hope you’re all showing some sonography pride this week, not that we don’t all do that on a regular basis already!
I just wanted to touch base with all of the NSSDMS members to say hello. First of all, thanks so much to Erin for all of the incredible work she has done over the last two years as president of the NSSDMS. Erin, you did a wonderful job and we were lucky to have you!
For those of you who don’t know me (which I realize is likely most of you), I’ll tell you a little bit about myself. I grew up and still live in Dartmouth, and took the Diagnostic Medical Ultrasound program at Dalhousie. I have been working at the IWK for a little more than a year now, and actually just completed the degree portion of the program this summer and will finally be graduating from university next weekend!
I am very proud to be a Canadian Sonographer, and am honoured to have the chance to serve as president of the NSSDMS. I hope we can all work together to accomplish great things, and that you will all feel comfortable coming to me with any questions, suggestions or advice you may have along the way.

*New Ultrasound Professionals Week
This is Ultrasound Professional's Week! The NSSDMS would like to take this time to thank the membership for a job well done! We encourage all of you to take pride in our profession and to help promote our profession in your workplace.
Following the style used last year, a tent card and poster have been devised for use in waiting rooms, cafeterias or other area of your work place. The tent card is designed to be printed (doublesided) on card stock and folded like a book to place on tables.

Legislation Committee and TASK (NSAMRT) meet with DOH Committee
The Department of Health Committee for Health Professions Regulation Review requested a meeting with our LC and TASK to learn more about what each of our professions does and how we work both together and apart. The meeting was held on July 28, 2011. By all accounts the meeting went very well. Erin Lushman and Sherry Chauder represented ultrasound with Erin giving the presentation. Our lawyer, Marjorie Hickey, feels that we will not make the fall session of the legislature due to the timing of the meeting during the summer. She feels that they will not make a decision until September and by then it will be too late to make the agenda. However, we are all still hopeful for the spring 2012 session.
