New Message from the President

The following message is from Catlin Dent, President NSSDMS

"Just a few little notes and updates that I thought I would pass along to everyone.

As far as legislation goes, the Legislation Committee is still hoping to make the 2012 spring sitting. (see the next message below for more information).

I am sure by now that everyone is aware that the 2012 CSDMS Conference is being held in Halifax on June 7th to 9th. I hope many of you will be able to attend, and registration is now available online. This year’s conference contains a fantastic arrangement of speakers and what should prove to be a great “down-east” social event, and I am really looking forward to the opportunity to get to meet a lot of you that I have not yet had the chance to be introduced to.

As for the conference, we would love volunteers from all across the province; if there is anyone who feels they would like to participate once they arrive here for the conference, please let us know. One thing in particular we could certainly use is sonographers to act as moderators, but any type of help is welcome! Additionally, if anyone has contacts they can use to help to provide door prizes for the conference that would also be appreciated; it would be wonderful to be able to represent all areas of the Maritimes as much as possible during this national conference!

So to sum up, the two major things going on in the Nova Scotia world of ultrasound right now are the ongoing Legislation battle and the rapidly approaching conference. Please feel free to let me know if you have any other topics to discuss or questions to bring up, and thanks for all your support while the Legislation Committee is working so hard to help to get our profession the respect it deserves!

Keep up that sonographer pride, and hope to see you all this June!"

Catlin Dent, President NSSDMS

Department of Health requests more information

The DOH has requested more information from our lawyer, Marjorie Hickey. There were 3 particular questions. The first question asked for a copy of the jurisdictional scan related to our groups. This is a document that Marjorie will provide and it simply reviews the current status of our professions in Nova Scotia and our scopes of practice. The other 2 questions were answered by NSAMRT. DOH asked if the NSAMRT consulted with the NS Nurses Union on the draft Act and they asked what the estimated membership fees will be for the college.

Your Legislation Committee are still hopeful that we will make the 2012 spring session. Stay tuned!
